Summer night 2017

Cicadas are singing a late July night swan song. Logs in the fire pit are popping and smoking. Unseen neighbors converse on the other sides of privacy fences that don't contain their voices. It's a summer Friday night in the burbs. Mosquitoes cross the defenses between bare skin and repellent. Beer warms too quickly.
Welcome the spontaneous neighbor visit and stringy marshmallow melted s'more. So sums up these finite summer days. These days of gangley teenagers fixing their third marshmallow, soon to be called to the responsibilities of adulthood. For now, a pereve from the world and from autumn classes. A reflection of youth & adulthood passing, changing. Memories being made.
