summer time

It is officially summer break for John & Sam, and in a matter of days also will be for Jakob. We hope to have a lot of fun and relaxation this summer, but we also hope to be productive as well. We have a daily routine - tv off, kids dressed and breakfasted by 9, 'quiet work'/'homework' til 10ish. Kids have Summer Bridge books, I hope to get some reading done. Activity @ 10 and lunch at noon. Afternoon activity tbd daily.

Big events/projects we are looking at this summer:
-tree house for the boys
-family reunion in July
-trip to Mammoth Cave with Jay's family
-possible trip to Iowa
-and, the imminent house projects

If you are interested, so far we have:

5/17 Under the weather, and fixed the first floor bathroom exhaust fan

5/18 Ice cream social with Sam at CCU and window shopping for treehouse. Jakob raced the Vasa II in the rain gutter regatta in scouts and made it to the finals. Fourth overall out of 30(?) boats.

5/19 Banana bread and drawing out tree house plans pt. 1

5/20 Delivered 1 loaf banana bread to Lovett’s; bought mulch, peat, topsoil, manure and folded it into front bed with Sam. Mon had 2nd, 2nd interview with Children’s Hospital. Jakob cut the front yard with the lawnmower. I still owe him $5.

5/21 Hit 10 Kenview yard sales in 45 minutes w/Sam. Bought a train, 30 marbles, a crank popcorn popper and a blender, all for under $20.

5/22 Hung the hose holder, shut the exhaust fan and painted it, dug the front and side gardens with Mon. Grilled out at the Hursh’s with the other men’s group guys and wives.

5/23 played bass for the first time, and at Connections. Sam & Jakob went to Andrew Teegarden’s birthday party.

5/24 walked Jakob’s ‘mini-society’ bookmarks and money up to the school after he called. Mon had carseat with the chevy at 2nd interview with children’s. Sam & Dad dismantled the neighbor’s ‘fort’ and when they guys came for men’s group we lifted it over the fence. Jakob enjoyed watching Jocelyn practice ‘little orphan annie’ at the Blue Ash bandshell.

5/25 Drove down to pick up tools from Jay’s and neighbor thought I was his Dad. Also picked up plants from Margaret.

5/26 Dropped off tree-house plans to Blue Ash, drove down to school and dropped class. Milkshakes from UDF.

5/27 Went to a half day mental health seminar at the Lindner Center of Hope.

5/28 Sara came over for lunch. Played in park.

Don't know if you have your Mammoth Cave reservations yet, but Bettie and I spent a night in a teepee at Wigwam Village http://www.wigwamvillage.com/ . It was a step back in time. Fun without being too back-woodsy.

However you go, have a great trip!

somewhere that first week, kitty took out three members of our local chipmunk community. I think that was already a post by itself.
