bathroom pt.3

 Few more updates on the bathroom.  New sub-floor down.  Kind of miss the tight wire routine of walking on the open joists and avoiding tumbling down into the basement.  Not that noticeable in these pictures but also had some wiring done by a professional electrician.  We uncovered some troubling things during demolition and it was beyond my rudimentary electric skill.

 New can light roughed in over the shower.

 New exhaust fan waiting to be vented.

 Relocating of light switch to the left side of walking into the room.  Also changing the door swing out since it's such a small bathroom.  While we are getting use to the new door swing it's a good time to learn the new light switch placement.  Also, above the switch is the control for tile thermostat.  The electrician was concerned that since the electric boxes were on the same corner as the shower we might consider adjusting access to the shower.  The door kit we have has one fixed panel and one sliding panel.  We are now going to put the sliding panel away from the switches.  

 Looks uncomplicated now but there was some engineering to level things up.

 New shower controls.  Access to the old tub (see broken gypsum board) predated us owning the house.  The bad thing is that John's closet is on the other side of this panel.  During demolition most of John's work clothes were covered in dust before we realized how much was getting into the closet. 

 Not great things uncovered: Besides needed electric updates we also uncovered some shoddy planning and a plumbing leak from a 1990's upstairs bathroom renovation.  Contractors willed a 4" stack pipe through a joist in the picture above.  Although they reinforced it, with a little more planning they could have avoided this compromise.  Also, below we found the remnants of a leak and damaged joist.  The plumbers we hired ran a new drain pipe for the upstairs shower and seem to have ended the leak.  The joist seems fine strengthwise, but we may reinforce it before closing up the ceiling.
