At the suggestion of brother Dwight, as well as one of cousin Terri's engineers, we visited the Model Railroad Museum at Balboa Park. It was pretty cool.
Being a club exhibit, it was broken up into various size of track as well as different states of completion. We saw a lot of 'HO' sized trains, as well as 'O' and 'N' scale.
Most of the displays were behind glass - probably to keep curious kids' hands off - so the pictures turned out just okay.

Maybe they were just trouble shooting, but at least two guys were in radio contact about a particular problem train. That is some hard core hobbying.
This particular corkscrew was modeled after an actual track pictured below. One of the guys said that it was not uncommon that longer trains might double back on themselves.
There was also a section called the three-rail club. This was devoted to Lionel / kid / novelty type trains. This room looked a little like an Apple-bee's.
Pretty cool. I know the boys liked it. This would be a neat hobby to get into for someone with the room, some coin, attention to detail, and a lot of patience. That probably rules us out. Still, it's fun to look over someone else's work.
