hello california

Our first full day on the ground started really, really early.  Or perhaps really late.  Still on Cincinnati time.  All three guys were up and dressed by 5:15 a.m. California time.
Aunt Gene asked if the boys wanted to help make orange juice.  The oranges came from their yard.  Jakob says it was really good.

After breakfast, Sam found the house cozy chair, and reading glass.  You would still like him when he's angry.
Jake & Sam like to climb in the avocado tree.

We don't have many lemon trees back in Ohio.  When the Aunt gives you lemons, you make lemonade.
Interestingly, a neighbor has a couple of barnyard birds.  Jake calls the goose, Aflac.
The boys also made friends with a neighbor's dog, Jazmine.  She really does not like men, but really warmed up to the kids.

Sam decided today that he was not crazy about kumquats.  He spit it out so fast after one bite that I did not get another picture in.
We took a stroll and lunch on the Imperial Beach pier.

Fish tacos.  Tried it for the halibut.
The boys were afraid to get dropped on by the seagulls and pigeons.

Hard not to get excited about going to the beach.  The ridge at the right side of the picture is Mexico.

Terri helped Sam get into his wet suit for boogie boarding.  Their lower floor is set up to accommodate surfers and surfboards.  My one regret of the day is not getting a picture of the three of us guys in our suits.  Kind of made us feel like Frozone - "Honey, where is my super suit?"  In reality, it was probably a little more like Mr. Incredible after he had retired and gained 100 lbs.  Interesting exercise slipping in and out of a wet suit.  We spent the afternoon trying to boogie board.  So much fun.
