One of the things we wanted to do while in San Diego was see a Padres game. We made plans with Samuel Hughes (aka "big Sam" we call him) but went to the wrong trolley station. He faithfully waited for us at the right station, but by the time we made contact with each other we decided to give up on the rendezvous.
Something borrowed, something blue. We scrounged up a couple hats from the house - Daren and Josh's, and found some other gear locally for the game.
Petco Park is a great baseball venue. By the time we left I was thinking, we'll take your park, but we're keeping our team. I think what was best about it was how it tied in to the surrounding neighborhoods. GABP tends to be fairly isolated on three sides.
In centerfield there is a "beach" section with a large sandbox for the kids. Behind that is a large grassy mound where you can bring a lunch and a family. There's also a wiffle ball diamond for kids.
The promotion that day however, was the opportunity for kids to run the bases.
Parents & kids entered centerfield and walked on the warning track to first base where kids started their lap to homeplate where they reunited with parents.
Boys are between second and third.
What a great day.
San Diego's light rail sure makes getting around easy. Unless you're trying to find big Sam at a station.
